SIRC Spring Classic Segment Challenge

SIRC Spring Classic Segment Challenge

2020 saw SIRC’s Covid classic series stomp into the early season cycling calendar with great vengeance. This year, the format has evolved to allow combining segment times to provide a more even playing field, because after all, the pure climbers already have the Peak ITT!

Sunday 10th January 2021

The SIRC roundtable is tickled to present another edition of the SIRC Spring Segment Challenge. Just like all good spring classics, these stages will start in cold temps, hopefully hotting up for the final stages.

As last year, challenges (stages) will each last just 2 weeks to keep things fast-paced. Paying respect to roads less traveled and those you know well…..we present you with 2021’s six stages and dates (subject to change):

Stage 1 – Tai Hang Thruple (January 11th – January 24th)

We start things off with a trio of easy access segments: one flat, one short & punchy and one longer climb.  No bonus points for finishing off with a coffee!!

Stage 2 – Caped Crusaders (January 25th - February 7th)

This stage features 3 challenges including a punchy climb, a longer harder climb and a flat(ish) time-trial.

Stage 3 – Chasing the Dark Side Dragon (February 8th - February 21st)

This stage includes a few segments routinely hit on the Sunday GT as welll as a less regularly ridden climb. We hope to C U in the NT!

Stage 4 –The Chalkboard (Back to School) (February 22nd – March 7th)

Featuring some lesser-known segments (except perhaps for teachers). Scrape your fingernails down this stage!

Stage 5 –Lantau Laughing (March 8th – March 21st)

Is Buddha laughing at you? Show him who’s boss as you hit these segments on Lantau.

Stage 6 –Mount my bike (on a wall) (March 22nd – April 6th)

An extended stage to take in the Easter break. This selection of Hong Kong “Mounts” could be the decider for the overall champions.

GC Competition

There will be two overall champions, one male and one female. These two champions are decided based on their combined time for all Stages, along with stage win bonuses which are deductions of time based on the finishing position.

Time bonuses for stage wins:

  • First place: 10 second bonus
  • Second place: 6 second bonus
  • Third place: 4 second bonus
