South Island Road Cycling

South Island Road Cycling is a forum for Road Cyclists in Hong Kong.  Morning rides on the empty streets of HK Island before most people would even think of getting out of bed (we are glad that they don't!) are what we do best.

Mid-week rides (Tues, Weds & Thurs) are usually posted on Monday. W/end ride plans are posted during the week usually with a summary on Friday. All rides are group rides and generally will re-group at intervals; the faster rides may not but this is agreed before the ride departs.

A good ride to pick if you want to join us for the first time is Tuesday's Peak Repeats - one of us

A good ride to pick if you want to join us for the first time is Tuesday's Peak Repeats - one of us will make sure you know what's going on & where to go. If you are new definitely let other riders know - in lycra, shades and helmets on darker mornings sometimes we don't recognise ourselves even!

Rides on the Island mostly leave from the Sinopec petrol/gas station on Wong Nai Chung Gap Rd (next to HK Cricket Club); the Pokfulam Express meets at the junction of Pokfulam Rd & Mount Davis Rd. Tung Chung rides usually meet in the Disney Hotel car park - we are grateful to the Hotel for allowing us to park.

Mid-week rides are early (0545 start) with the aim of getting us home around 7am or so. Anybody can post a ride - and please do! When posting a ride though, it is important to -> Show up (on time) -> Stick to the route & ride plan (no 50kmh pace line if you have posted a recovery ride)

The single most important aspect of any ride is to GET HOME SAFELY.

Working lights & a helmet are a MUST. It is YOUR responsibility to be as visible as possible. HK roads are narrow, potholed & strewn with metal plates & manhole covers that can bring you (& others) down. Be aware of, & courteous to, other road users. A "thank you" wave never goes amiss. Be aware that in HK riding is single file. Bring what spares you may need & be able to use them. We run SIR events during the year ("races" & socials) & actively participate in local & overseas races. See you on the roads!
